Must Have Crag Essentials

Must Have Crag Essentials

I remember just starting climbing and wondering, “What should I bring with me when I go climbing?” So here is what I bring whenever I'm just sport cragging.

Shelf Road is our local crag, and whenever I’m climbing there, I have a 30L backpack (That I actuly got at our shop), my rope bag, and a stick clip.

My Climbing Bag

I pack my bag by putting the gear I’ll most likely not need until later at the bottom. For me, that means I put my jacket, personal anchor, prusik, and backup belay device at the bottom. On top of those items, I put my esental climbing gear like quickdraws, belay device, and anchor system, along with my warm-up block. On top of that, I put my chalk bag and harness.

After I get most of my climbing gear in the bag, I put my water bottle in so it’s closer to the top and easier to grab. Then I take my food and snack bag and put that in my helmet. Once this is in the bag, the helmet protects the food from being crushed. I then throw whatever is left on top. My first aid kit is always in the brain of my climbing bag, so it’s easy to grab.

Then, when I’m carrying my stuff, I have my backpack on, my rope bag slung around my shoulder, and my stick clip, which I use as a hiking pole.
